Victor Bauer was born in Vienna in 1902. At the age of 10 he moved to Munich together with his parents and went to school there. In 1920 he returned to Austria and graduated from school. He began studying anatomy, medicine and painting. During that time Bauer participated excursions to Russia and Greece. Apart from that, he got in contact with other artists like Adolf Loos, Karl Kraus and Wilhelm Reich. All this experiences led to his first exhibitions. Victor Bauer moved to Paris and got in contact with the circle of the Surrealists. He was a member of the artists circle centered about Andre Breton. In 1936 he moved to Nizza and got deeply involved in politics. In 1943 he was sentenced to death due his political activities. Fortunately, he was liberated from prison in 1944. Victor Bauer died in 1959 in Nizza.
