Karl Anton Fleck
Karl Anton Fleck was born in Vienna in 1928. Initially, he completed an apprenticeship as gravure retoucher and studied Jazz music. From 1953 to 1958 he lived in Sweden. After his return he became a member of the Vienna Secession and joined the artist group Der Kreis. In 1973 he was awarded with the Theodor Körner Preis and 1979 he was appointed professor. During that time he had many exhibition participations. He died in 1983 in Vienna. Karl Anton Fleck painted many portraits of his friends and colleagues. He also made many paintings of very distinctive landscapes. The human body was very prominent in his work, almost in every picture there are fragments of limbs. Fleck developed his own style: Cut-outs and the reduction to essentials on the one hand, distortions and accumulation of details and symbols on the other hand.
