Marc Chagall was born in Witebsk/Russia in 1887. From 1910 to 1914 he conducted his first study tours to Paris and gained experience from his first exhibition participations with the Intependants. Thus he got in contact with Leger. In the beginning of his career Chagall had a cubism phase. During the First World War he stayed in Russia. In 1918 he returned to France. Under the Nazi regime he had to flee and lived in the states until 1948. Chagall died in 1985 in France. Marc Chagall is a very important artist of the 20th century. He had a very long artistic career in which graphic was a central technic. In addition to the big art movements he developed his own art style.
