Markus Prachensky was born in Innsbruck in 1932. He moved to Vienna in 1952 in order to study painting and architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts. Together with Josef Mikl, Wolfgang Hollegha and Arnulf Rainer he founded the legendary artist group “Galerie St. Stephan”. During the following years he had alternately lived in Paris, Vienna and Hamburg. In 1967 he moved to Los Angeles. He returned to Europe in 1970 and lived there until 1972. He went on study tours to Italy, France, Spain, Mexico and the United States. Prachensky taught at the Academy of Fine Arts at Vienna. The artist died in 2011. Markus Prachensky is considered to be one of the most prominent of the Austrian Informal art movement. The use of color is very important, particularly red has its special meaning. Apart from the color he applied very clear forms and lines.
