Pongratz was awarded many art prizes. The artist lives and works in Vienna and Korcula. Peter Pongratz´ art cannot be ascribed to the big art movements in Austria such as the phantastic realism or the informal. In the sixties he founded the art movement “Neue Wirklichkeiten” together with Robert Zeppel-Sperl, Wolfgang Herzig, Franz Ringel and Martha Jungwirth. Very important for his art is the confrontation with the Art Brut movement and the art of autistic children.
