Markus Vallazza was born in South Tyrol in 1936. In 1947 he joined a priest school but gave up two years later. From 1954 to 1956 he worked as a wood carver. In 1956 to 1957 he spent some time at the Istituto d’Arte Porta Romana in Florence. In 1959 he wrote first poems. In 1960 he lived in Paris. In 1961 he returned from Germany and worked as a teacher until 1971. He created his first etchings in 1966. Vallazza was a member of the Vienna Secession in both 1970 and 1975. In 1991 he taught at the International Summer Academy in Salzburg. Vallazza was awarded many art prizes. The artist lives and works in Vienna and Bozen. Markus Vallazza belongs to the greatest drawing and graphic artist of our time. He illustrates themes of big novels and is certainly also drawn to darker themes. Vallazza’s graphic works are already certified as contact with the comic language.
