Herwig Zens was born in the vicinity of Vienna in 1938. Since 1961 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1962 he signed up for Oskar Kokoschka’s School of Seeing at Salzburg. Later he attended the painting study at Prof. Elsner in 1967. From 1986 to 2001 he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He was awarded many art prizes. Zens went on a lot of journeys through Europe, Egypt, United States and Persia. The artist died in 2019 in Vienna. Herwig Zens focuses especially on paintings. Central motifs are the death, the Greek mythology, the Oeuvre of Francisco de Goya and Spain.
